Tony Gilham has announced he will race the Thorney Motorsport Vauxhall Insignia during this weekend's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Snetterton.

Having handed his own Team HARD Honda Civic over to American racer Robb Holland - who will make his BTCC debut in Norfolk - Gilham will now replace John Thorne at the wheel of the Insignia as it returns to the series for the first time since Donington Park having undergone a series of revisions away from the track.

Despite having his own team in the paddock, Gilham's entry this weekend is under the Thorney Motorsport banner.

"John Thorne has a big sponsor lined up for the future and it'd be nice to try and help him move the car closer to the front-running pace, plus it keeps my face on the grid which is good for my sponsors," Gilham told BTCC.net. "It'll also be valuable NGTC experience for everyone within Team HARD as that's the route for us in the future... we hope to have a considerable presence on the grid next season.

"I won't see the Insignia until the first practice session on Saturday morning but the aim will be to steadily work away at the set-up and keep chipping away at the lap times.

It's obviously going to be a very busy weekend for me, driving the Insignia and overseeing Robb's debut in our Civic but I've drafted in extra staff to ensure it all runs smoothly. It's important Robb is properly looked after on his first outing with us - I am sure he is going to be competitive."

Gilham's best finish so far this season is third place at Donington Park, while the Insignia has yet to score a point from its two race meetings thus far in 2012.
