Wrathall hopes for maiden win

Frank Wrathall targets a maiden win in the second half of the 2012 BTCC season
Frank Wrathall says he is hopeful of challenging for his maiden victory in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend at Snetterton.

The Dynojet Racing man secured a fourth place finish at the circuit last season to kick-start his campaign after a difficult start and heads to Norfolk this time around seeking to add to the single podium finish he has to his name already this season.

A win is now the aim for the second half of the year, and Wrathall said he saw no reason why he couldn't challenge for honours.

“It's achievable,” he said, “but the key will be a good qualifying performance and a bit of luck in the races, which is something which has been in short supply for us so far this year.

“Snetterton was the turning point for us last year and the fourth place we scored was all the sweeter for being unexpected. But I don't know what to expect from Snetterton this year. We know in which areas we are struggling with the car, and hopefully we can dial that out. If what we have done to the suspension and the steering has worked, then we will have a good meeting, and one of those is overdue.”

Wrathall will hope to benefit from a day of testing carried out last week at Brands Hatch, although he admitted that the busy nature of the circuit had worked against the team.

“The circuit was busy with other cars, so traffic was a problem, but we covered around 80 laps and got through the whole programme,” he said. “I was pleased with how the Toyota felt, and it was great to get behind the wheel again after what feels like months.”
