Newsham delighted with first win
14 August 2012
Dave Newsham admitted he was delighted to secure his first win in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.
The Team ES Racing driver had shown his pace earlier in the year in his Vauxhall Vectra but had been unable to secure a trip to the top step of the podium, with a series of below-par showings immediately prior to the summer break.
However, the Inverness-racer was back on form in Norfolk as he qualified on the second row of the grid.
The opening race saw Newsham cross the line fourth having lost a podium position following a forceful move from Andrew Jordan on the final lap, although the Vauxhall man was then excluded for his car being underweight.
That left Newsham at the back for race two, where he came through to eighth place to earn a front-row start for race three thanks to the reverse grid draw. Battling ahead of Lea Wood early on, Newsham went on to take his maiden victory and the first for his team – giving him the ideal boost heading into his home meeting at Knockhill.
“A win for little ES Racing and the sponsors who keep our season ticking over is just unbelievable but thoroughly deserved,” he said. “The timing couldn't be better either with Knockhill, my home race, next. It's going to be a very special weekend.”
“I thought we might be able to do something like this if everything went into place. We had great pace in qualifying and practice, even with no testing since the last race. It's just awesome.”
