Plato closes in

14 August 2012

Jason Plato has closed to within ten points of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship lead with a solid performance on the resumption of racing at Snetterton.

The MG KX Momentum Racing was on fine form in Norfolk as he qualified on the front row of the grid and then took his second win of the season in the first race of the weekend.

A second podium followed in race two despite a controversial clash with rival Matt Neal, with contact from the Honda putting Plato sideways at Coram while leaving before he then returned the favour at the following corner.

Fourth on the road became third in race three when Gordon Shedden was excluded and it means Plato now sits just ten points away from the championship lead heading to Knockhill in two weeks time.

“A pretty good day for us,” he said. “I'm slightly frustrated as I feel Race two should have been my second win of the day, but me racing against Matt often ends in tears, where perhaps it doesn't with me and some other BTCC drivers. But looking at the bigger picture we've closed the gap in the championship to both Hondas, so overall it's been a great weekend.

“What's encouraging is the MG is really starting to come alive at a crucial stage of the season. In fact I think it's going to be strong at all four remaining rounds so it's game on.”
