Shedden crowned 2012 BTCC champion | BTCC News | Oct 2012

Gordon Shedden has won the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title after a podium finish in race two at Brands Hatch.

The Honda driver went into the race knowing that he would be crowned if he could extend his advantage to at least 22 points given his superior winning record compared to rivals Jason Plato and Matt Neal.

As it was, Shedden secured second place and set the fastest lap to extend his lead over Neal to 23 points - putting him out of reach in the standings with a race to go.

"I'm pretty happy!" he said after the podium celebrations. "It's been a long time coming but I wasn't sure if it was enough - I had to keep asking. The fastest lap point proved to be enough.

"The team built a fantastic car and now we want to try and get a clean-sweep."

Andrew Jordan also clinched the Independents' title in the same race after his only rival - Rob Collard - was forced to retire after being caught up in an accident on the opening lap.
