Renault Clio Cup champion Jack Goff is to test with Team HARD at
Silverstone as he evaluates his places for the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.
Goff is looking to move into the
BTCC next year having wrapped up the Clio crown at
Brands Hatch and will try out Team HARD's newly-acquired Vauxhall Insignia during the test.
He will become the latest young driver to run with the team after Howard Fuller and Aaron Williamson both raced its S2000-based Honda Civic in the second half of the 2012 campaign.
“It's what I want to do and have been working towards for some time now and it's also what my sponsors want to do,” Goff told
btcc.net. “Hopefully we can make it all come together.
“It felt great to get the call from Tony (Gilham) and I can't wait to see what one of the latest-spec NGTC cars feels like.
“Being successful in Clios in front of the
BTCC teams has definitely helped get me noticed. I was team-mate with Dave Newsham in 2010 and Aron Smith in 2011 in Clios and they've obviously gone on to big things in the BTCC.
“The Clios have also produced other top
BTCC names like
Tom Onslow-Cole and
Mat Jackson so, hopefully, this is where it all starts for me.”
Team boss Tony Gilham himself said he would love to get Goff onboard for the 2013 campaign, when the team plans to run two Insignias as well as the Honda.
“Jack is obviously a major talent in the making – anyone who wins the Clio title is clearly made of the right stuff and going to do well in the BTCC,” he said. “We're all about nurturing young talent for the future and I'm really happy we're giving him his break – it'd be great to get him on board for 2013's
BTCC and build with him into the future.”
