Series announces penalty move

16 November 2012

Organisers of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship have announced a new penalty that will be introduced for unruly on-track behaviour during the 2013 season.

In an effort to improve driving standards, series bosses have revealed that any driver who picks up three penalties for on-track driving offences, from a verbal warning upwards, will then be given an automatic six place grid penalty.

That penalty must be served at the first available race, with the grid drop being re-applied if a driver picks up three further penalties as the season goes on.

The announcement comes on the back of a season featuring a number of controversial clashes on track, including a collision between Mat Jackson and Dan Welch at Oulton Park, title rivals Matt Neal and Jason Plato clashing at Snetterton and Plato tangling with Aron Smith at Knockhill.
