Hot Rod champ secures BTCC test

Carl Boardley the latest driver to earn a BTCC test with the Speedworks team
Multiple Hot Rod World Champion Carl Boardley is to become the latest driver to test with Speedworks as he eyes a possible switch to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship next season.

The 36-year-old, who has taken multiple titles at a range of levels in Hot Rod competition, will get the chance to sample Speedworks' Toyota Avensis at Snetterton on Friday in what will be his first run behind the wheel of a touring car.

Having spent the past three seasons competing in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, Boardley said he was looking forward to seeing what he could do at the wheel of the NGTC-spec machine.

“Our aim of getting on to the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship grid is a serious one,” Boardley said, “and this is the number one project to get the budget together.

“Christian and Amy at Speedworks Motorsport have been extremely helpful in discussing my options for next year and we are already in talks with some major companies to get our budget together. The chance to work with a professional team is something we are all extremely excited about.”

Experienced BTCC racers Dave Newsham and Lea Wood both sampled the Avensis during a test at Donington Park last week.
