The 2012 season turned out to be a difficult one for Frank Wrathall and the Dynojet team – although it would all come good in the end as he joined the winners list in the final race of the campaign.

Pre-season had seen the team build up a new version of the NGTC-spec Toyota Avensis used in 2011 although there was little more than a shakedown before the opening round of the year at Brands Hatch, where Wrathall qualified well before a problematic race day yielded just a 13th place finish.

It was to be a familiar story as the year went on, with the youngster establishing himself as one of the best qualifiers on the grid – taking a stunning pole at Snetterton and only twice failing to make it into the top ten.

Invariably, any problems would come on race day, such as at Knockhill where an engine issue early on in race one would end his weekend early.

However, podium finishes at Thruxton and Snetterton showed what could be achieved when things went to plan and in tricky conditions on Finals Day, Wrathall achieved the win he had been chasing all season.

Don't be surprised if it is the first of many…
