Jordan heads the pack at Donington

21 March 2013

Andrew Jordan posted the quickest time of the day as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship was launched with the only official test of the off-season at Donington Park.

The reigning Independents' champion posted a best lap of 1min 10.358secs at the wheel of his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic which was enough to knock the MG of Jason Plato off the top of the times.

Jordan would eventually end the four-hour session just 0.071secs up on the double champion.

“It has been a really good day,” he said. “We completed a lot of running and if qualifying for Brands Hatch was happening tomorrow, then we'd be really confident. We're not overly concerned by the times at this stage of course, but I'm really happy with the changes we made to the car, which definitely improved things towards the end of the day.”

Defending champion Gordon Shedden was quickest of the two works Hondas in third spot, with Adam Morgan an impressive fourth in his Ciceley Racing-run Toyota Avensis. Fellow Toyota man Dave Newsham was fifth, with Matt Neal rounding out the top six.

Elsewhere, Sam Tordoff was seventh in his first session alongside Plato at MG, while Colin Turkington was tenth in his eBay Motors BMW, which was only finished earlier in the day and was shaken down over the course of the test.

Five of the Jack Sears Trophy entrants were on track during the test, with Liam Griffin quickest in his Addison Lee Motorbase Ford, just ahead of the AmDTuning.com Volkswagen Golf of James Kaye.

Griffin caused one of three red flags during the day after a spin exciting the Old Hairpin, with Rob Austin and Ollie Jackson also causing stoppages. Austin went into the gravel at the Old Hairpin, while Jackson suffered a spin going down the Craner Curves that resulted in the red flag being thrown to remove debris left by his Toyota.
