Shedden snares pole at Donington

Gordon Shedden takes his first pole in Honda's NGTC Civic at Donington Park
Gordon Shedden saw off the challenge of Frank Wrathall to snare pole position for the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.

The Honda man was able to edge Wrathall out of pole by less than a tenth of a second after a hard-fought battle out front, with the pair split by just 0.049secs at the end of the session.

Shedden, eager to bounce back from a tough start to the campaign at Brands Hatch, was able to benefit from having minimum ballast on his Honda Civic to secure his first pole position since the Dynamics-rum team switched to its NGTC-spec machine last year.

“With the tools at our disposal and with not carrying any ballast, then I think pole position had to be the aim,” he said. “Wrathall was the surprise of the session so I plan to try and get my head down and keep out in front tomorrow. It's my first pole position in the NGTC car and it's been a long time coming, so I'm delighted.”

Behind Wrathall, who admitted he had 'wrung the neck' of his car to take second, Andrew Jordan and Matt Neal took third and fourth on the times with the top six completed by Jason Plato and Adam Morgan – the former insisting he couldn't have done much more with maximum ballast in his car and the latter pleased to maintain the kind of form that saw him pick up three strong finishes at Brands Hatch.

Sam Tordoff, Colin Turkington, Dave Newsham and Jeff Smith rounded out the top ten.

Amongst the S2000 runners doing battle for the Jack Sears Trophy, James Kaye was quickest for AmDTuning.com in 20th overall, ahead of the Fords of David Nye and Liam Griffin.
