BTCC Thruxton 2013: Jordan storms to pole

4 May 2013

Andrew Jordan left it late to secure his second pole position of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton.

The Pirtek Racing man produced a storming lap on his final run in the session to jump ahead of defending champion Gordon Shedden with a time of 1min 16.527secs putting him two tenths of a second clear of his fellow Honda driver.

It gave Jordan his second pole of the campaign, having also qualified in top spot at Brands Hatch during the opening meeting of the year.

“The car was fantastic and I'm looking forward to tomorrow,” he said. “I was relaxed after the win at Donington and I love it here too. I was really hanging on during the lap but it was a lot of fun.”

Behind Jordan and Shedden, Mat Neal ensured a Honda 1-2-3, with the works MGs of Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff fourth and fifth. Jeff Smith completed the top six in the second Pirtek Racing Honda despite his session ending with a spin off track at Church.

Tom Onslow-Cole secured his first top ten qualifying result of the season in the new Team HARD Volkswagen Passat with the seventh quickest time, with Frank Wrathall, Dave Newsham and Colin Turkington completing the top ten.

Turkington's eBay Motors team-mate Rob Collard was amongst those drivers to encounter issues in the session with a turbo problem leaving him off the pace in 16th, while problems with suspension components left Will Bratt and Rob Austin down in 18th and 25th in the two WIX Racing Audis.

Amongst the Jack Sears Trophy runners, Joe Girling was quickest in his M247 Racing with Tech-Speed Chevrolet Cruze ahead of Lea Wood and joint championship leader James Kaye.
