Shedden eager for clear run

Gordon Shedden says he is keen to avoid a repeat of the Thruxton dramas that again left him playing catch-up on race day
Gordon Shedden says he is eager for a weekend without trouble after being forced to once again come through the pack during the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton.

The defending champion had qualified second on the grid alongside Andrew Jordan and jumped ahead of the poleman at the start, although his hopes of victory ended on the opening lap when a clash with Jason Plato at the Complex dropped him the back of the field.

Starting race two from 25th having finished a lap down earlier in the day as a result of needing to pit for fresh tyres, Shedden stormed through the field to secure a place on the podium after taking advantage of a moment for Jordan at Church on the final lap.

Seventh on the grid for race three, Shedden worked his way through to second place before a puncture for Plato saw him take the lead.

A second win of the season then followed to leave Shedden fourth in the standings but he admitted that he was eager to try and stay out of trouble in future as he seeks to defend his title.

“It was a difficult start to the day but we can leave with our heads held high after the win,” the Honda man said. “It still feels like a day of what might have been but if you had told me I'd take a win and a third after the incident this morning I would have thought you were joking. It's the ups and downs of touring cars and I definitely want to defend my title. I had to dig deep today and I did.

“Two wins and a second is fantastic for Matt [Neal] – the old boy's still got it! He now leads the championship, which is great, but we'll work hard and work together to see if we can both be in the fight.”

Good end to the day after Crash Bang Plato spoiled the first race. When will Plato get disqualified for his behaviour on the track. After all he is usually calling for the younger drivers to be banned.
