Onslow-Cole gets Aston Martin test opportunity

11 May 2013

BTCC racer Tom Onslow-Cole was at Snetterton in Norfolk this week with the Aston Martin Racing works team, trying out the V12 Vantage GT3 for the first time.

"Considering I only did a handful of laps, the Vantage GT3 was incredibly easy to drive," said the BTCC driver fresh from a double podium at Thruxton last weekend.

"There is so much grip and you get plenty of information back as a driver – it's incredibly satisfying," he added.

Aston Martin was at Snetterton preparing its five-car line-up for the Le Mans 24 hours, the third round in the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship. Other teams present included Beechdean AMR and their driver Darren Turner.

Onslow-Cole was attending Thursday's track day at the invitation of Aston Martin Racing team principal John Gaw, after the two had met earlier in the year.

"I was impressed when I first met Tom with his attitude and approach and his clear understanding of how the commercial side of motorsport works," Gaw explained of the appeal of giving Onslow-Cole a chance of a test outing.

"He has also impressed recently on the track and did so again at the test yesterday," Gaw added. "We look forward to seeing him in a GT car soon.”

It was the 25-year-old's first outing in a GT car, and doesn't necessarily indicate whether Onslow-Cole will have an outing for Aston Martin or any of the other teams at Le Mans.
