Steele eyes BTCC for 2014
Aaron Steele's motorsport career has been stop-start to date, but he has his sights set on a return in the BTCC next season.
Former MSV F3 Cup champion and Sunoco Grand-Am 200 Challenge winner Aaron Steele is preparing for another motorsport 'comeback', with his sights set firmly on joining the BTCC in 2014.
Steele has been forced to take yet another break from racing due to financial constraints, but has not been an idle spectator and his comeback plans have taken a major step forward with the announcement that he will join RGM Motorsport for its inaugural BTCC assault in 2014.
To springboard his campaign, Steele will compete in the final two rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship with Vuik Racing. His first race, in a Mercedes C200 S2000, will be in Italy on 14 July, and will be followed by another outing in the Czech Republic before his focus switches to the BTCC.
Along with his success on track, Steele has been nominated for various accolades, including the BRDC Rising Star and McLaren Autosport Award, and graduated with a BEng in Motorsport Engineering in 2011. His racing career, however, has been something of a rollercoaster, but switching from one series to another has provided experience of a wide range of cars, and plans for 2014 are gathering pace.
“I know that being part of the debut season for the RGM Motorsport team in British Touring Cars could provide some unique challenges, but I also know it would provide an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what I can do as a racer, and I intend to show this in the final rounds of the European Touring Car Championship,” the 24-year old said, “There have been some tough weekends and tough years, but every time I have taken to the track I have learned something and taken a step forward. I believe the 2014 season will see me develop even further as a racer.”
“The team have recognised how much Aaron has achieved in his career against the odds and, like Aaron, are positive and excited for the 2014 season,” team principal Richard Taylor added, “The whole team is fired up, and cannot wait to hit the track.”
