Airwaves pair keen on progress

Mat Jackson and Aron Smith hope Airwaves Racing can challenge for top honours at Oulton Park
Airwaves Racing pair Mat Jackson and Aron Smith are hoping for more forward progress at Oulton Park this weekend when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship resumes with the fourth round of the year.

After a tough start to the season, the most recent event at Thruxton saw signs of progress with the team's NGTC-spec Fords, with extensive testing then taking place in the five-week gap between race meetings.

Jackson was a winner at Oulton Park with the team's older S2000-spec car and will now seek to challenge for his first podium finish of the season when he arrives in Cheshire, with the fact he turns 32 shortly after the race weekend giving him extra incentive to try and secure a top result.

“We've been working really hard during the five week break and we're confident we've made some positive changes with the car,” he said. “The testing time that we've had has been invaluable and hopefully it will hold us in good stead for Oulton Park.

“Oulton's a great place to race at. Its proper circuit which breaks the mould and I'm really looking forward to getting back out there again this weekend.”

Team-mate Smith meanwhile took his best result of the season to date with a fifth place finish at Thruxton last time out and the Irish racer said he was keen to build on that result during the weekend ahead.

“Off the back of our most successful weekend to date I think everybody is rightly filled with confidence at Airwaves Racing,” he said. “We've made quiet big changes heading to Oulton so effectively it's a new car once again; and from the testing we've had during the gap I think there is a lot more potential down the route we are now going.

“Oulton Park is a great circuit with a big mix of corners and we've developed something with that in mind so fingers crossed we'll hit the ground running in free practise on Saturday morning. The aim is to build on our 5th place finish in race three at Thruxton and hopefully move forward. With the work that's gone on behind the scenes I definitely think that it's possible.”

The team's third NGTC-spec car, which completed a shakedown test last week, will join the grid at Croft running under the Addison Lee Motorbase banner alongside the S2000 car of Liam Griffin.
