Jordan: We’re right up there
10 June 2013
Andrew Jordan believes his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic is well in the hunt for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after claiming victory at Oulton Park on Sunday.
Jordan finished fourth and fifth in the opening two races, before storming from sixth place to victory in the final round.
The 24-year-old now sits second in the drivers' championship, just four points adrift of leader Matt Neal, and believes he is now in the mix for the title: “We've come out of it joint top points scorer and we're right up there in the championship,” said Jordan.
“I said before the first race that if we could come away with three top sixes, it would be okay, with the weight we had on. To get a win was a nice surprise. We've closed the gap to Matt Neal from 13 points to four.
“If you'd asked me how my day was going after race two I'd have been a lot less happy than I am now. To pull that result off has made my weekend – you can never be sure what's going to happen in race three and it was only once I got up into fourth that I thought I could actually win it.”
Despite victory, Jordan admitted his disappointment in not claiming a one-two finish after a late spin for team-mate Jeff Smith, and stressed the increased importance of winning after his close competitors failed to score:” It's a shame that we couldn't get a one-two for the team,” he added.
“There were no team orders, Jeff (Smith) just lost the rear going into the chicane and didn't quite manage to save it.
“Consistency is key for me this year and while I didn't get great results in the first two races, we scored big in the last one while Shedden and Plato didn't finish, so that makes it an even better result.”
