Honda pleased to be on top after difficult weekend

11 June 2013

Honda were pleased to maintain leads in both the drivers' and manufacturers tables, following their trying weekend in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park.

Championship leader Matt Neal narrowly missed out on a brace of podium finishes and was instead forced to watch his team-mate, Gordon Shedden, take to the podium twice.

Neal now leads Andrew Jordan by just four points in the drivers' standings, but still expressed his pleasure at the quality of the races: "When we had the weight out for race two we made a set-up change that didn't quite work and we didn't reap the benefits,” he said.

“We changed it again for race three and the car came alive. It was awesome. I wanted the race to go on. It felt like the soft tyre was lasting better than the hard.”

Meanwhile, Neal's Honda team-mate Gordon Shedden stormed to two podium finishes at Oulton Park and highlighted the performance of the car as the key to the results: “The car has been fantastic all weekend and we maximised what we had,” Shedden said.

The BTCC now moves to Croft in a fortnights time, with Matt Neal aiming to bounce back from his difficult weekend.
