Colin Turkington took a first pole position for eBay Motors' NGTC-spec BMW 125i M-Sport after a last gasp lap edged out Jason Plato for top spot in qualifying for the fifth round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft.
Turkington set his fastest lap with the closing lap of the session after a mad dash for pole following a red flag stoppage caused by Joe Girling going off into the barriers exiting the Chicane.
The Northern Irishman broke Tom Chilton's lap record with a time of 1min 24.465secs, putting him 0.148secs clear of Plato's MG6, which had seemed set for pole.
Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden and Andy Jordan followed behind in a train of Honda Civics, with Rob Collard rounding out the top six with his best qualifying performance of the year to date. Like Turkington, Collard set his best time on his final lap of the session.
Frank Wrathall, Sam Tordoff, Tom Onslow-Cole and Adam Morgan rounded out the top ten – the latter after Ciceley Racing were able to repair his damaged car following his shunt in practice.
Michael Caine was 15th in his first qualifying session in Addison Lee Motorbase's NGTC-spec Ford, while debutant Jake Hill – driving for the same team – was second amongst the Jack Sears Trophy runners to current leader Lea Wood.
