Jason Plato ensured a clean sweep for MG during the two-day Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship tyre test at Snetterton, with the fastest time in both sessions on Wednesday.

Having seen team-mate Sam Tordoff lead the way on Tuesday, the double champion came to the fore on the second day of running as he topped both sessions and posted what would prove to be the best time of the week.

Tordoff slotted in behind as the Triple Eight-run team made it a 1-2 on the times in every session.

"We've had a very good test these last two days - we've been doing a lot of race runs and we understand our car a little bit more," Plato said. "I think it's a strong development path we're going on - if you look at the times both Sam and I have been quick all day long, and not just over one lap.

"We've stuck to our plan - we've not being going out to show off, we had a strict programme of tests to go through and we've completed it which is important. It's probably the best test we've ever done."

There was something of a surprise behind however, with Jack Goff making the most of a set of new tyres shortly before lunch to post what would prove to be the third fastest time of the day at the wheel of his Team HARD. Vauxhall Insignia - by far and away the most competitive showing thus far in 2013 from the reigning Clio Cup champion.

"Some of the things we've tried at this test have made a massive improvement to the way the car feels," the rookie said. "The balance is really good now - it's probably the best the car has ever felt. I did that time at the end on brand new tyres, and it was the first time we've run new tyres all test. It's not quite perfect yet and there's a bit more time in the bag, so we'll see how it goes."

Rob Collard was fourth for eBay Motors as he seeks to kick-start his campaign after a tough start to the year, while Aron Smith gave Airwaves Racing reason to cheer as he impressed with fifth ahead of Colin Turkington.

"Over the last few days we've been playing around with just about everything, which is nice because on a race meeting you don't usually have time to go over it all," Smith said. "It's been a problem for us all season, but now the areas that we have been struggling with we're strong on, which has allowed us to focus on other areas that we haven't looked at yet. Having both Nick [Tandy] and Mat [Jackson] here as well as myself has brought us on leaps and bounds by tripling our testing mileage."

Andrew Jordan, Jackson, Tandy and Mike Jordan completed the top ten.

Elsewhere, Warren Scott and Joe Girling both tried out the second Team HARD. Vauxhall, while Richard Hawken enjoyed his first run at the wheel of Speedworks' Toyota Avensis.
