MG KX Momentum Racing boss Ian Harrison says he is hopeful of 'big results' from both drivers when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season resumes this weekend at Snetterton.
The team enjoyed a successful test at the circuit last month, with Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff taking a 1-2 on the times in each of the four sessions run across two days as teams took the chance to get some mid-season running under their belts.
Many are now tipping the pair to be the ones to beat this weekend in Norfolk and while he admitted that the testing results would count for little when the weekend gets underway, Harrison he was keen to see both drivers bring home strong results from the sixth round of the year.
“Testing is all well and good, and we had some positive mileage, but it is all about what happens when the points are on the table,” he said. “We have to take all of the things we have learned and make sure we turn them into solid results.
“This is the time of the season when you can make a real difference. We are going to Snetterton full of anticipation but we must make that count and land the big results. That is what I expect from both of my drivers.”
Plato is the best placed of the MG pair so far in a share of third place in the standings and he said his aims for the weekend were clear.
“We've made progress in all areas with the car – in terms of handling, how we use the tyres and getting the most from the softer Dunlop rubber that we have to use this year. I am full of confidence,” said the two-time champion.
“By the end of the weekend, everyone's going to be drinking a can of KX whoop-ass, which I am hopefully going to be able to hand out. We have the tools to do the job and we are going to get it done.”
Rookie team-mate Tordoff meanwhile said he felt that Snetterton gave him one of his best chances of success so far as he seeks to open his win account.
“Snetterton has always been kind to me,” he said. “I have won there in Renault Clios and Porsches, and the testing session has given me lots of confidence. The mileage was vital and I am sure that we will be quick straight out of the box.
“I think that the work that we have done on the soft tyre is going to reap real rewards. We have taken steps to make it suit the car and that's going to pay off. I am full of excitement over the second half of the year.”
