Morgan strengthens challenge with double points
27 August 2013
Adam Morgan added two more top ten finishes to his tally to continue his impressive campaign in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill.
Morgan went into the weekend looking to strengthen his top ten championship position and was on the pace from the outset in his Ciceley Racing-run Toyota Avensis in free practice before taking sixth on the grid for the opening race.
A fine run in the opening race saw Morgan take the flag in fourth place, although he was demoted to fifth post-race after being penalised for contact with the MG of Jason Plato.
Race two ended in disappointment when a broken driveshaft forced him into retirement, which in turn left him at the back of the field for race three.
Despite that, Morgan came through the pack in fine style to take ninth place on the soft compound Dunlop tyre – giving him a 17th top ten finish of the season to date.
“I think the penalty in race one was a little harsh given some of the moves we have seen this season, but I am not complaining,” he said. “I was quicker than Jason and didn't want to get caught up in the pack behind so, when there was a gap, I had to go for it
“Race two was our first mechanical problem of the year and that just shows what a great job the guys at Ciceley have been doing for me. It's one of those things. at some point during the year something was bound to break, but it's frustrating after such a good start.
“I think I killed the tyres quite early on in race three as I set off like a rocket and I think I just worked them too hard and they were soon gone. Still, ninth from the back of the grid is good and I salvaged some points after our disappointment in race two.
“This could have been a mega weekend for us but it's turned out just OK. The next rounds are at Rockingham, a circuit I like, so hopefully there are some good results to come there.”
