Pirtek's Andrew Jordan has admitted he is surprised to be leading the BTCC title race by a healthy 34-point lead over former champion Matt Neal going into Brands Hatch's season finale.

Heading into the Silverstone weekend Jordan had previously said he wasn't optimistic of scoring well on the National circuit due to the nature of the track layout coupled with carrying the full 45 kilo success ballast.

Instead, Jordan managed to secure three top six point finishes including a second place finish in race two, only narrowly missing out on the win after an enthralling battle MG's Jason Plato who went on to take his 80th BTCC victory.

"I'm very surprised with the margin of our championship lead," Jordan told crash.net.

"15-points was the number I had in my head after qualifying, so to come away with a 34-point lead is a surprise and something I'm really pleased with."

Jordan also said he expects to be in a more competitive position at Brands Hatch but says scoring good points will be the primary target rather than risking everything for race victories.

"We should be pretty strong at Brands, the cars good there and hopefully I'll be on it there. We need to keep looking at the championship, we just need to score well and not worry about race wins."
