As defending champion, Gordon Shedden went into the 2013 season as the man to beat and after a season of ups and downs, the Scot came close to successfully defending his title.

Close, but not close enough.

The Honda driver was forced to fight back from a tough start to the season where he only managed to score in one of the three races at Brands Hatch during the opening rounds. Three podiums, including his first win of the year, followed at Donington Park however as he looked to fight back into contention.

When things went well, Shedden was usually to be found around the podium places, with no fewer than 18 top three finishes in 30 races.

However, a clash with Jason Plato at Thruxton and a fiery engine failure at Knockhill would all prove to be costly as Shedden went into Finals Day knowing that he needed luck to be on his side if he was to try and beat Andrew Jordan to the crown.

Two wins for Jason Plato at Brands Hatch overshadowed Shedden's efforts as a second place in race one and a win in race three saw him finish just seven points behind Jordan in the title race - leaving him to wonder what might have been had luck gone his way earlier in the year.
