Top 10 BTCC Drivers of the Year 2013: 2: Colin Turkington

Team: eBay Motors Car: BMW 125i M-Sport Wins: 5 Podiums: 10 Pole Positions: 1 Fastest laps: 3 Championship points - Overall/Independents: 347/411 Championship position - Overall/Independents: 5th/2nd

The 2013 season saw Colin Turkington make a welcome return to the BTCC for the first time since winning the 2009 title - with the Northern Irishman going closer to the title than many would have expected.

With an all-new car as WSR joined the NGTC ranks, Turkington didn't enjoy the best of starts to the season after an accident in qualifying at Brands Hatch but he recovered to score five successive top ten finishes before giving the car its first win in round six at Donington Park.

As team and driver came to grips with the car, podiums followed at Oulton Park before a fine weekend at Croft, with pole positions and two wins, showed Turkington was very much in the mix for the title.

Two more wins followed at Knockhill after the summer break but incidents on track at Snetterton and Silverstone, and an exclusion for an overboost at Knockhill, ultimately robbed him of the chance of celebrating his return with what would have been a fairytale second title.

Turkington took widespread praise for his driving over the course of the year, and if returns in the BMW again next year, there is little doubt he'll be amongst those drivers going for the title.
