Speedworks Toyota buoyant ahead of Brands

25 March 2014

Speedworks Motorsport believe they are ready to tackle this weekend's BTCC opener at Brands Hatch in the best shape ever since their debut in 2011.

The Cheshire –based squad will once again field the Toyota Avensis, this time in the hands of BTCC rookie Tom Ingram who makes the jump from the Ginetta Supercup as the reigning champion.

Speedworks team boss Christian Dick says his squad this season has a better understanding of their Avensis Saloon, citing an improvement with the consistency of their car since last year.

“We've had an extremely positive and encouraging off season,” said the Speedworks team principal.

“Obviously you always want more track time to be able to test, develop and refine the car, but I'm confident we've made the very best use of the resources we have available to us and that we've taken a sizeable step forward since the end of last year.

“As a team we're working together more efficiently than ever.

“This is our fourth season running the Avensis, and we've really got a good grasp of it now. We had a few difficulties in 2013 when although it was fast, it could also be a bit of a handful sometimes, but we've ironed those little issues out over the winter and it seems to be a much stronger and more consistent package.”

Dick also believes the appointment of Ingram has been 'a breath of fresh air' for his squad, adding points and top ten finishes are a realistic target.

“I actually have to keep reminding myself that Tom is only 20 – he has such a mature head on his young shoulders.

“He is a real breath of fresh air and an absolute joy to work with. His first test in the car was at Silverstone in what can only be described as horrendous conditions; there was a lot of standing on the track, yet he never put a wheel out – of – place.

“Points are obviously the goal, and if we can kick of proceedings with a top ten or two, that would be fantastic.”
