Brands Hatch: Jordan on pole at Brands BTCC opener

Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan claims the first BTCC pole position of year at Brands Hatch
Reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan claimed his first BTCC pole of the year after snatching the top spot from MG's Jason Plato at Brands Hatch.

Plato had led most of the session after topping both free practices earlier in the day but Jordan's 48.228 second lap the Honda Civic just twelve-thousandths of a second ahead of the MG.

eBay Racing's Colin Turkington also threatened to take pole but the former BTCC champion fell just under a tenth short of the ultimate pace in third.

Matt Neal began his Civic Tourer's BTCC career in fourth following Turkington's BMW by a mere two-hundredths of a second.

2012 champion Gordon Shedden will start his 2014 campaign from fifth position on the grid ahead of tomorrow's first race.

BTCC rookie Tom Ingram provided a stunning introduction to the series by qualifying his Toyota Avensis into an outstanding sixth position also giving his Speedworks team their best Saturday result to date.

Aron Smith led a Chrome Edition Restart Racing seven-eight after out-qualifying his illustrious team mate Alain Menu to seventh place.

Airwaves Racing's Mat Jackson managed to place his Focus ST into ninth place despite struggling for pace in the days earlier free practice sessions.

Rob Collard completed the top ten in his eBay Motors BMW two and a half tenths shy of the pole-sitting pace.

BTCC legend Fabrizio Giovanardi notably languished down the field in his Airwaves Focus to qualify a disappointing 18th on his series return.
