Airwaves Racing's Fabrizio Giovanardi says he isn't completely happy with Focus ST's set up despite showing promising pace in the second race of the day at Brands Hatch.
Giovanardi had started the day 18th following a disastrous qualifying due an engine misfire but the returning BTCC legend has gradually worked his way into the top ten despite not having the car quite where he'd like.
The former double champion finishing 14th and tenth in the opening two races.
“Brands Hatch is a very tricky circuit and we had bad luck in qualifying yesterday with an engine misfire so that lost me three to four tenths and that time can cost 15 positions,” Giovanardi told crash.net.
“To start in that area you need some luck and maybe some front guys hitting trouble and nobody at the top end hasn't really made any mistakes.
“But we have to be focused on developing the car because the first races and qualifying are history. If I'm watching the second the race I was close to the front guys so we have to make sure we start at the front in future.”
The Italian also added that his Airwaves Focus seems to struggle once new tyres are fitted to the Motorbase run machine.
“We're still working on the set up because we haven't got the right balance at the moment and we're not the using the new tyres in the right way as a result.
“With the new tyres on the car is un-driveable and so it's difficult to make the top performance, top speed and the top lap.”
