Jordan pleased to extend BTCC points lead

Reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan extends his points lead over Honda's Gordon Shedden
Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan hails a 'fantastic' Thruxton weekend as the current BTCC champion further extended his advantage over the chasing pack.

Jordan was again the man to beat around the Thruxton circuit after posting yet another astonishing qualifying lap to claim his third pole in as many years around the Hampshire circuit – obliterating Yvan Muller's 12-year pole-position record in the process.

The championship leader then converted his on the edge lap into a relatively routine race one victory before picking up another podium with a second place result in race two.

Pirtek's main man then completed his day with a fine fourth place finish from starting ninth on the reverse race three grid after successfully picking his way through the chaos which ensued ahead of him.

Jordan now enjoys an eight point championship lead ahead of Honda's Gordon Shedden.

“Really good points day to get the win. First of all yesterday with the free practice pace and the pole position was fantastic and converted that into a win so I was very happy with that,” Jordan told

“In race two we just went a little bit the wrong way with the set up so the car was very loose and couldn't really match Shedden on that one.

“But then to come from ninth to fourth and just about stay out of trouble in race three was a good old touring car race.

“We caught Giovanardi a lot because he was struggling with his tyres, so I was trying not to get too caught up to allow Shedden get a little bit closer so I had to be a bit sensible on where I was getting the runs on him but yeah a great race and I'm sure it was good for the TV and the crowd.”

Jordan, although running with maximum ballast, said he wasn't surprised with his Civic's red hot pace around the Thruxton circuit but expects the weight to take a greater toll around Oulton Park.

“At this circuit the ballast doesn't really hurt as much, it still hurt but it won't hurt as much as it's going to at Oulton Park, where it's very stop start while having to carry the weight up the hills.

“That will hurt there but that's what comes with leading the championship but I'm obviously very happy to lead the championship.”
