Oulton Park: Jordan expecting Oulton ballast handicap

Pirtek's Andrew Jordan looks to preserve his BTCC championship lead at this weekend's Oulton Park meeting.
BTCC championship leader Andrew Jordan says he and his Pirtek squad need to remain 'savvy' at Oulton Park as his Civic, again, carries full ballast to the event.

Jordan did carry full success ballast last time out at Thruxton, but the fast-flowing nature of the circuit alleviated much of the handicap as the defending champion marched to an impressive double victory to enhance his status at the top.

As a result of his opening three-round exploits, the 25-year old enjoys an eight point lead over Honda's Gordon Shedden while BMW's Colin Turkington lies a further ten-points back – a tantalising 35-points separates the top five rounded off by Jason Plato.

This weekend, however, the Pirtek man says the Cheshire circuit remains the most weight-dependant track on the calendar despite the championship using the longer layout for this year's round.

Jordan believes, much like Donington Park, a top six qualifying result would give him a healthy platform to work from come Sunday's races.

“I love racing at Oulton but I think we'll struggle a bit because we've got 45kg going into the weekend at the most weight-dependent circuit there is,” he said.

“I've got to keep my head down and do the best job I can and see where we get to. We have to be very savvy how we approach these weekends.

“If we qualify in the top six at Oulton I'll be very surprised. If that's the case, we need to tackle it like we did at Donington and get through it with as many points as we can.”
