Menu: I’m due for a podium

BMR's Alain Menu says it's high time he get backs on the BTCC rostrum this weekend at Snetterton but concedes a challenge for the podium isn't yet a given.

Menu enjoyed his strongest qualifying session to date since his sensational comeback at the start of the season to qualify his Chrome Edition Restart Racing Volkswagen CC in fifth position.

Despite a season best position of fifth the Swiss touring car legend wasn't completely satisfied with his days work, stating he hasn't been able to carry the same feeling of the car to Snetterton since making progress with the front end of his VW-machine earlier at Pembrey last week.

“I was really hoping for a bit better than that,” Menu told crash.net. “After the test we had at Pembrey last week I felt we had made some progress with the front end. But here it hasn't really translated into the same feeling that I had at Pembrey and lap time also I guess.”

“We need more work with the car I know. We need to improve the front end a bit more. But yeah, having said all that, I'm happy with P5 as it's my best qualifying this year. It was good a lap, I don't think I could have gone much faster.

“P3 was only four/five hundredths faster, maybe. All in all, for the team, P5, P7 and P10 is a good effort.”

Hindered by the lack of in season testing and at times, horrific luck Menu still believes achieving top results remains a tough ask given he and his BMR squad still haven't found the ultimate pace of their car.

“Yes I am in a better position but I have also been so unlucky this year, so hopefully that's gone!” Menu continued.

“The plan is to have a normal weekend without any issues. Yeah a podium would be nice. I think I'm due a podium, any better than that I don't know. We still don't have the ultimate pace, so I'm not dreaming about the race win.

“For sure, we still need to go testing properly, two/three days which we are not allowed to do. So it makes it almost impossible, we are playing catch up but we cannot catch up with teams, cars, drivers who have been doing it for three years. That's a winter job,” he concluded
