BTCC championship leader Colin Turkington says matching Jason Plato's pace tomorrow will be a tough proposition as the BMW qualified half a second off the MG's time.

Turkington, who currently leads the BTCC title chase by seven points ahead Honda's Gordon Shedden, who endured a disastrous qualifying and languishes twelfth, amazingly qualified his eBay BMW on the front row even when carrying a full complement of success ballast.

The Ulsterman has been the form man of late, even when carrying the full brunt of success weight at Croft. But Turkington faces a heightened challenge at Snetterton, as the stop-start nature of the Norfolk circuit is known as a weight punishing track.

Despite sharing the front row with Plato, Turkington believes being able to match the MG6 will be a different ball game come race day.

"Yeah, it was a strong performance, the car was good today," Turkington told crash.net. "I got a good lap and really pleased to be where I am but it's always going to be difficult to match the MG's around here but my car was strong round here today. So, pleased we've kept the form going from Croft.

"It's going to be hard to match the MG tomorrow. We closed the gap from free practice so if we can find a little bit more and keep Jason honest we'll have done a good job."

Although his 1 Series has been renowned for being able to preserve its tyres longer than others as part of its weaponry, the eBay BMW man was pessimistic in knowing whether this could be a game changer for tomorrow.

"We'll see how the car goes in the race distance, that's the key along with trying to be fast at the end, we'll keep working hard," Turkington continued.

"I don't know how we'll go over the race distance, that's the theory that we always keep the tyres better but that doesn't always work. If you're slightly out of balance at the start then it's difficult to be quick at the end. We'll just try and play to our strengths and try to score well."
