Jason Plato has set the early BTCC pace for MG at Silverstone as the top-six runners are separated by just two-tenths of a second.

Plato's 58.614 second lap around Silverstone's National configuration was good enough to get the better of Gordon Shedden's Civic Tourer by just half a tenth.

Behind the top two a further four cars, led by champion elect, Colin Turkington in third, all nudged themselves under the 59 second bracket in a closely compacted opening exchange.
