Silverstone's race three winner Mat Jackson believes he has an outside chance of pipping Honda's Gordon Shedden to finish third in the final BTCC standings.

Jackson and his Airwaves Ford squad have enjoyed a rich vein of form of late and another healthy points haul taken from Silverstone has leapfrogged the Motorbase man ahead of reigning champion Andrew Jordan to fourth in the standings.

The Ford ST driver took his second win of the 2014 campaign in commanding fashion during the final heat at Silverstone to add to his third and fourth place finishes obtained from the opening two races.

Jackson had to pass to his Airwaves team mate Fabrizio Giovanardi in order to win race three and when the Italian made a mistake into Luffield, the current Motorbase team leader didn't need to be asked twice.

"Yeah it's a great result. The car's been faultless all weekend, so yeah very happy," Jackson told

"To be able to control things in the third race was awesome. We proved our Ford really does have some legs in it and we managed to deliver.

"Once we got clear in race three, and I knew it was vital to do so, Fabrizio made two mistakes at two consecutive corners and that worked in my favour. Once we got into clear air I could really control the race from there, which turned into an easy one.

"Fabrizio's a hard man to race against but I managed to capitalise on his error and get through, so it worked out well for me."

The 33-year old says the aim now has to be focussed on clinching third place in the championship. The Motorbase driver must outscore Honda's Shedden by 35-points to take the position.

"I think we have an outside chance for P3 in the championship, obviously Gordon's in that position and Jordan's very close in fifth position as well," he continued.

"That's certainly where we're going to aim and we're going to target that. All we can do is do the best that we can with what we've got and that's the aim and that's where we're going to be hunting.

"You just never know what car is going to suit what circuit. But yes, I think we're in good shape for Brands Hatch."
