AmD's Mike Bushell will take no further part in this weekend's Thruxton BTCC action after sustaining 'severe ligament damage'.

Bushell was involved in a violent shunt which saw his AmD Ford Focus veer off into the Armco barrier at a vast rate of knots.

The BTCC rookie was exiting the pit-lane when his Ford Focus connected with Simon Belcher's Toyota Avensis, who had just started a hot-lap in the early part of qualifying.

Both cars received extensive damage but while Belcher was able to walk from the accident, it soon became apparent Bushell was in some trouble.

The reigning Renault Clio Cup champion was immediately taken to hospital where the doctors diagnosed the 25-year old with severe ligament damage.

"The most important thing is that Mike has escaped more serious injury as a result of the accident," said team boss Shaun Hollamby.

"While it's a disappointing way for our weekend to finish, I'd like to put on record my thanks to the marshals and medical teams who were on hand for their fantastic response to the incident. As is always the case, they did a brilliant job in dealing with the situation."
