Team BMR's Jason Plato has begun the Oulton Park British Touring Car weekend in electric fashion after setting the time screens alight aboard the Volkswagen CC.

The double BTCC comfortably smashed his qualifying lap record around the Cheshire circuit, which the 90-time race winner already held from 2013 when driving for Triple Eight MG.

At one point, Plato's 1 minute 25.671 second lap sat nearly one-second clear ahead of anyone else until Tom Ingram's last minute effort reduced the margin to 0.6's by the end of the session.
