Mat Jackson's crushing Silverstone clean sweep shows no sign of relenting after the Motorbase Performance driver takes his second British Touring Car Championship victory in as many events at Silverstone.

But the opening race served up another dramatic twist in the BTCC title race when Team BMR's Jason Plato picked up a puncture on the very last lap of the race and failed to complete the distance.

Plato had been running and was on course to score a handful of valuable championship points but now faces a 21-point deficit to Shedden.

The add salt to the wounds, championship leader Gordon Shedden made full use of Plato's demise and finished in third position, putting clean air between himself and Team BMR driver.

Shedden had started the race from second but was unable to challenge the Motorbase Ford Focus of Jackson, who dominated the race with some ease from pole position.

Triple Eight's Andrew Jordan - also joining Jackson on the soft tyre - scored his best result since Oulton Park after getting ahead of Shedden early in the race and managed to quell the late attack from the Honda Civic Type-R as the MG began to struggle on the soft tyre.

The 2013 BTCC champion did manage to peg Jackson's lead at the front but Jordan could do no more than hold his position in second.

The degradation of the soft Dunlop rubber helped carve two thirds of the podium when BMW's Sam Tordoff - also opting to run the soft tyre - fell down the field to tenth despite holding third for the majority of the race.

That elevated Power Maxed Racing's Dave Newsham into fourth. Newsham - sensing a potential podium was on the cards - made a robust move at Tordoff's expense on lap 17 but couldn't repeat the same feat on Shedden for third.

Defending champion Colin Turkington had a quiet race in fifth ahead of his BMR Volkswagen team mate Aron Smith in sixth.

Despite starting further down the order, Rob Collard ended the first race as the top West Surrey Racing runner in seventh after moving ahead of Matt Neal, Tom Ingram and Tordoff during the closing stages of the race.
