Two-time BTCC champion Alain Menu is set to return for the season finale at Brands Hatch as cover for the injured Warren Scott at Team BMR RCIB Insurance.

Scott suffered two fractured vertebrae in a nasty crash during free practice at Silverstone in September and as a result has been ruled out of the final round after it was confirmed he must remain in a back brace for six weeks.

The Team BMR boss says he's devastated to miss Brands Hatch but is delighted he can call in former driver Menu for a one-off outing. The Swiss driver, who notched up two BTCC titles in 1997 and 2000, made a much-anticipated return to the national series last season grabbing two rostrum finishes on his way to 11th in the championship.

"I called Alain on Friday on my way back from hospital to invite him to drive as my replacement," he said. "I am absolutely gutted that I'm not going to be in the seat myself as it would have been a great end to an amazing year. Alain is the natural choice to replace me and I am very grateful to him for stepping in."

Menu will be able to adapt to the VW almost instantly as he's been working with the team all season and has attended all team briefings at the BTCC rounds.

"I am grateful to Warren and Team BMR for asking me to make a comeback in the BTCC at Brands Hatch," Menu said. "The circumstances are unfortunate due to Warren's injury from Silverstone and it's going to be a big challenge to be competitive as I haven't driven for a year, but at the same time I am excited to be back."

Menu will get behind the wheel of the #9 Volkswagen CC machine at the Kent track this weekend.
