Double British Touring Car Champion Alain Menu refuses to set any immediate target on his return to the series while filling in for the injured Team BMR owner driver Warren Scott at the Brands Hatch finale.

Menu has spent almost the entire 2015 season consigned to the side-lines after losing his BMR Volkswagen seat following the recruitment of Jason Plato and Colin Turkington.

The 52-year old has attended almost the entire BTCC campaign as his team boss Scott's driver mentor but admits 'standing on the other side of the fence' has at times left him feeling 'powerless'.

"It's unfortunate that it's due to Warren's [Scott] injury but at the same time I'm very happy and grateful that he chose me to replace him. It's great to be back," Menu told Crash.net.

"It's been completely different for me this season. I've been on the other side of the barrier and that's been quite hard sometimes because when someone else is in the car you feel completely powerless - I've never experienced that before. Its two different worlds, you can't compare them. It's night and day."

Despite possessing a vast amount of experience coupled with enviable success in the series, Menu is under no illusion of the task in helping BMR clinch the drivers' and teams' titles.

Menu finished eleventh in the 2014 drivers' championship aboard the Volkswagen CC - collecting two podiums along the way - but has had limited running in the 2015-spec challenger.

"Everyone is saying 'with all your experience it won't be a problem' but I haven't driven any racing car for a year now so it's like being thrown in at the deep end. I'll know more how I feel and how hard I can push after practice," Menu continued.

"Apparently the car is easier to drive than last season but it's not something I'm worried about. I'm just going to feel my way in and see what happens.

"The car's data is better than last year but I'm not going to go out there and compare what I'm doing to last season. I just want the car to be good and competitive.

"I don't have a target. I'll set myself a target after qualifying but that depends where I'll be on the grid."
