Team BMR boss Warren Scott admits the wounds of missing out on the British Touring Car Championship drivers' title are still 'raw' after a team orders 'miscommunication' sparks furore between Jason Plato and Aron Smith.

Plato has been highly critical of his fellow Volkswagen colleague by accusing Smith of not playing the team game during the Brands Hatch finale.

Angered by Smith not dropping back into the pack and sacrificing his second position in race one, an infuriated Plato said his team mate 'had probably got himself the sack' during a television interview after the race.

However, Scott refused to point the blame at Smith and put the argument down to a 'miscommunication' within the team.

Plato missed out on winning the tile by just four points to Gordon Shedden despite winning the final race at Brands Hatch.

"We're very happy with the teams' title but at the same time we're a little bit sore about missing the drivers' championship by such a small margin," Scott told "I think we feel if it wasn't for a couple of small mistakes it should have been ours.

"Honda have done a fantastic and credit to them but it's just a bit disappointing to get this close and miss out. Honda would have been the same if we'd have got it.

"There was a bit of a miscommunication during the first race and that led to some issues, which was unfortunate. We'll celebrate the teams' title but missing out on the drivers' crown is still a little bit raw at the moment."

Nevertheless, Scott couldn't conceal his pride for his BMR squad after wrapping up three titles in what was only the Volkswagen outfits third season in the championship.

"We should be extremely pleased. The team have done a fantastic job. With the team we put together everyone knew we'd be competitive, I like to think. We had quite a name to live up to and that's we're the team have impressed me the most how they just kept plugging away," Scott continued.

"We'll come back next season and we'll be fighting exactly the same way. It will probably be the same suspects looking to do it again. The feeling I have now just makes me want to come back stronger and make sure we take it next year."
