Goff: More laps would have been ideal

West Surrey Racing's newest recruit Jack Goff admits he would have liked more time in the car over the winter period but is otherwise happy with progress made aboard his new RWD machinery.
West Surrey Racing's newest recruit Jack Goff admits he would have liked to have achieved more winter testing mileage ahead of his RWD debut in the British Touring Car Championship in just over a weeks time at Brands Hatch.

For the second time in as many season's, Goff finds himself in new territory - behind the wheel of an IHG Rewards Club backed BMW 125i M Sport - having left Triple Eight MG at the end of the 2015 campaign.

Goff's switch from the works MG outfit has meant the BTCC race winner has had to adapt from FWD to RWD over the winter period.

Throttle cable issues hampered much of Goff's running during the Donington Park Media test but the 25-year old says adapting to RWD hasn't been a problem.

"We had some issues with throttle cable. It wasn't anyone else's fault. It was just a component that just decided to give up. So, that's that. We've just got to get up and move on," Goff told

"We've done a few days over the winter but we would have liked to have done a few more. We can't do anymore now so the next time I'm back in the car will probably be Brands Hatch.

"Everyone would like more testing under their belt but even more so for me because I'm coming from FWD. It's been fine to adapt to. It's a different driving style but there haven't been any real issues. I'm just having to change my driving style to suit."

While Goff may not have enjoyed the amount of testing mileage desired, the former MG driver feels his performance is on par with his existing WSR team mates Rob Collard and Sam Tordoff.

Goff is already thinking about the long-game of the championship race as last season's Snetterton winner aims for a brace of strong points finishes at Brands Hatch.

"Sam [Tordoff], Rob [Collard] and I have all been very close during testing. As I say, we haven't been able to show our pace here at Donington. I know what I've been doing over pre-season and I've been matching Rob and Sam so we'll be somewhere near," Goff continued.

"I just want to get some more laps under my belt because we haven't done as much as we would have liked. For me, it's going to be a matter of collecting points during the first few rounds and hopefully by the end of the year we'll be somewhere where we need to be.

"For Brands Hatch I've just got to finish every race as close to front as possible really. For me it's all completely different so I just need to go there and pick up as many points as I can."
