Donington Park: Eurotech announce Daniel Lloyd as third BTCC entry

Eurotech Racing has announced Daniel Lloyd as their third entry for the remainder of the 2016 British Touring Car season after acquiring a third TBL license, resulting from Andy Neate's Honda departure earlier this week.

Neate's split from Team Dynamics opened the door for the Eurotech squad to finally carry out their plan of running a third Honda Civic Type-R when the vacant TBL licence became available.

The two-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB winner will make his debut for Jeff Smith's Eurotech squad next month around the fearsome Thruxton circuit.

Although Lloyd has already tested with the Eurotech team, the former GT racer still admits his debut foray in the BTCC will still be a step into the unknown.

“I tested with the team ahead of the season and I was immediately impressed with the way it operated. I have been looking to do the British Touring Car Championship for a long, long time and it is the biggest championship in the country," said Lloyd.

“It is going to be a step in to the unknown for me to start with, but I want to get familiar with the car quickly and be challenging for podiums – although starting at Thruxton is going to be an eye-opener. I need to gain confidence, but with the crew around me I am sure that won't take long.”

Eurotech boss Smith says the recruitment of Lloyd is 'exactly what the team needs' as the former championship winning squad look to build a platform for the future.

"This is exactly the situation we wanted the team to find itself in. It is vital for our future that we have a strong, young driver who help push the entire programme forwards," explained Smith.

“Dan is keen to help Martin and myself move up the grid and we can all learn lessons from each other. This is an important step for Eurotech Racing.”
