Colin Turkington: It's a fantastic feeling. There's nothing like winning!
Double British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington basks in the glory of landing Subaru's first ever victory in the series after producing a typically dominant performance during the first Oulton Park race.

The Subaru Levorg driver controlled the entirety of the 15-lap race having successfully consolidated his position at the front of the field as the lights went out.

The nature of Turkington's first win of the season harked back to his glory days with BMW after strolling to a near three-second advantage over West Surrey Racing's Sam Tordoff in second.

It was a double celebration for the Subaru outfit as Jason Plato battled his way from sixth to stand on the final step of rostrum in third, following an enthralling battle with Honda's Gordon Shedden.

"It's a fantastic feeling. There's nothing like winning! I gave myself the best chance but you still go into the race not knowing what you've got and how good the car's going to be over the longer run," said Turkington.

"We've never run at the front of the pack in conditions like this on the soft tyres. I'm just delighted for the team really. It's great for me but the guys have put in so much hard work and got nothing back [until now]. To get two podiums in race one was a great reward.

"I really enjoyed the race. I felt comfortable out there and in the groove. There wasn't really much degradation with the car. I could just do my thing. You don't often get them as easy as that."

Though Turkington sailed to a relatively comfortable winning margin, the BMR man says his team must continue to push for more performance.

"The performance of our car has really moved on from the first three events. I think we're finding the sweet spot now and the whole package is really moving forward," Turkington continued.

"We know we need to go even better than that. We both had no weight on so that's a big factor."

As virtue of winning the first race, Turkington's Levorg will now have to carry 75 kilos of ballast for the time since entering the championship.

"It's not going to be easy. We haven't had that sort of weight on the car before. The good thing is we're starting with a balanced car, which makes it easier," the former double champion explained.

"We thought the soft tyre would be the best one today. It works well in these sort of temperatures. We were keen to get on it early. I think that was the trump car today."
