West Surrey Racing's Sam Tordoff emerges from Oulton Park with the British Touring Car Championship points lead after notching up a triple podium finish, which included his first win of the 2016 campaign in race two.

Tordoff had already seized the points initiative heading into the final encounter but an opportunistic run to second place allowed the BMW 125i M Sport driver to retain the lead by a point ahead of race three winner Matt Neal.

The WSR man was running a full 75 kilos of performance ballast, while using the soft tyre, but was able to pick off Tom Ingram towards the end of the race when others stuck behind the Toyota Avensis couldn't.

Tordoff expressed his surprise in reaching a bonus podium but said Ingram's pace on the soft tyre, especially whilst entangled in a ferocious battle with Josh Cook, worked in the BMWs favour.

"I didn't think that was quite possible. I thought race three was supposed to be a bit of a consolation after what had already been a great day," said Tordoff.

"The waves just seemed to part for me. I did a few bold moves on the outside of the podium, which were a bit kamikaze but thankfully it paid off. I can't really believe we're on the second step of the podium.

"With full ballast on the soft tyre I didn't really know what to expect. From what we've seen the soft tyre certainly isn't a hindrance around here. Tom [Ingram] probably did me a favour because he was certainly struggling towards the end."

Realising the importance of taking chances with making a series bold overtakes during the day, Tordoff said that was ultimately the difference between standing on the top step of the podium and not.

"It was important to go for those moves. Moves like I pulled off on Colin [Turkington] have made the big difference today. That's been the difference between winning and losing," Tordoff continued.

"We've got our reward this weekend so I just need to manage that at Croft, which will be a great circuit for us. This weekend we've arrived and shown what we can do. We've really set a mark."
