Silverstone: Turkington: I've got more work than normal!

Starting from 29th on the grid, Subaru's Colin Turkington heads into the first race not really knowing what he can achieve at Silverstone.
Silverline Subaru BMR Racing's Colin Turkington has geared himself up for a challenging penultimate round of the year at Silverstone as the former British Touring Car champion starts the first of three races from the back.

The Subaru Levorg driver picked up a third reprimand last time out at Rockingham, meaning Turkington was always destined to start the opening race from the back, regardless of where he qualified.

With the Subaru outfit still struggling with a lack of straight-line speed, Turkington says that will limit his avenues in moving back up the order.

Having to scythe his way through the field is far from an alien concept for Turkington after the BMR driver produced an eye-catching charge from 15th to third last time out at Rockingham.

"Coming from 29th on the grid, we've got more work than normal. I don't know what we can achieve. We've just got to try and make progress in race one to work my way through the pack in the course of the day," said Turkington.

"It's not going to be easy here because our pace hasn't been fantastic but the race can be a different story. It's like a race three grid for race one so you never know what can happen.

"Places like Rockingham, or even Brands Hatch, represent more overtaking opportunities. If you have a quick car in a straight-line here you can slipstream and get past that way but that isn't our strength at the moment so I'll have to find an alternative."

Turkington set the first the 15th fastest time in yesterday's 30-minute session but said he effectively used the grid determining shootout as a 'third practice session' to focus on race set-up.

Sitting 51-points behind championship leader Sam Tordoff in sixth, the 34-year old still has an outside chance of claiming an unprecedented first BTCC title for Subaru.

"I basically used qualifying as a third practice session. We saved two sets of tyres for today so I was able to test some things in qualifying with a view for today. That was a little bit beneficial," the Ulsterman continued.

"FP1 was wet so we didn't do much. We've had very limited running but everyone is in the same boat."
