Motorbase Performance's Andrew Jordan has played down his chances of mounting a serious challenge to claim this season's British Touring Car Championship crown despite reducing the gap to 29-points at Silverstone.

The Ford Focus ST driver took his second win of the season after passing Tom Ingram early in the second race before resisting the attentions of Adam Morgan, while also managing the soft tyre.

Having qualified fourth on the grid for the opening race, Jordan had already stated his agenda of returning to the winners circle for the first time since Thruxton this year.

"It's tightened it up. We're starting from eighth in this one so it's going to be damage limitation in race three. Having got the win, I don't really care what happens, within reason!" said Jordan.

"I knew we had the potential and the pace to do it so it was nice to follow it through. With the soft tyre I was a bit concerned because I was looking after them.

"Once the safety car came in I got my head down and saved enough of the left front so I was doing my best laps towards the end of the race.

"Normally the safety car cools the tyres down and causes them to grain up but we were fine. The car was hooked up so it was just a case of not making any mistakes and hitting my markers."

Characterising a typical Jordan move, the 2013 BTCC champion caught Ingram unaware heading into Becketts after slicing through with a daring inside lunge.

"I tried to loosen him up a bit at Luffield but I couldn't quite get him out of the way but I had a really good run. I knew I was going to throw it down the inside and I managed to get it stopped.

"He said he saw me coming but it caught him by surprise. That's the best way to do it, you can't defend it when you're halfway on the inside."

With just four races left of the season, Jordan - while admitting he is within striking distance of the points summit - remains relaxed over his chances.

"We'll see where we are at the end of the day. At 29 points we're certainly within striking distance but anything can happen. I'm just going to drive it as hard as I can in this race and see where I get to."
