Fiona Leggate will not line up on the grid at
Brands Hatch or
Silverstone after electing to bring her campaign in the 2006 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship to an early end.
Leggate, who missed last weekend's trip to Knockhill, was expected to return to the series for the final two rounds of the year, but a statement issued by Energy Efficient Motorsport – who had backed Leggate in the bio-ethanol fuelled Thurlby Motors with Boston Bowl Astra Coupe – confirmed that that wasn't the case.
“We are disappointed but we have to accept the decision,” EEMS project leader Steve Bunkhall said. “EEMS, and the other partners, have worked hard behind the scenes to resolve this as we wanted Fiona to finish the season. We would like to thank her for her work for EEMS this year.”
Marvin Humphries, the boss of the Tech-Speed team that runs the Astra, admitted he was disappointed that Leggate won't complete the season.
“Fiona could have gone well at Brands and she had her best ever
BTCC result at
Silverstone last year,” he said. “We are very disappointed.”
EEMS will continue to support the Astra should it compete in the final two meetings of the season, while also backing Team RAC – who switched to bio-ethanol at last weekend's
Knockhill meeting.
