Round 18: Jackson wins as SEAT's luck runs out

After a tough start to the weekend at Snetterton, Mat Jackson bounced back to take his second win of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season in the final race of the day.

Jackson used the superior starting prowess of his BMW Dealer Team UK BMW 320si to blast into the lead when the lights went out and was then able to hold off the concerted challenge of Steven Kane to take victory. Kane himself did his best to try and secure a first win for the Motorbase Performance team but despite some banzai laps late on, he was forced to settle for second place – giving the team its first true podium in the series.

Kane himself was in the action early on after he too jumped ahead of Gordon Shedden at the start, coming under pressure from the Scot during the early laps before the Team Halfords man made contact with the BMW at Sear and was forced into retirement. That allowed Fabrizio Giovanardi through into third place with the Italian able to sit back and watch the BMW battle with one eye on his championship challenge. His third place sees him extend his championship lead to over 30 points.

Giovanardi led a trio of Vauxhall men during the race as the team rebounded from a difficult Saturday, with Matt Neal fourth and Tom Onslow-Cole fifth, while Colin Turkington completed the top six for Team RAC and now leads the Independents' championship standings. Tom Chilton was seventh ahead of Adam Jones, Stephen Jelley and Rob Collard.

The race proved to be nothing short of a disaster for the previously dominant SEAT team however as both Darren Turner and Jason Plato were hit by the same mechanical problem which forced Turner to nurse the car home to 17th place and saw Plato black-flagged for churning out black smoke behind his car.
