Mat Jackson secured his second win of Finals Day for the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch with his fifth victory of the campaign putting him right into contention for the second overall in the championship standings.

Jackson's win, complete with fastest lap, saw him pick up the maximum points available from the race with a retirement for Jason Plato meaning Jackson now sits just five points behind going into the 30th and final race of the season. Jackson will also start the race from eighth on the grid with Plato at the back.

Having wrapped up the title in race one, Fabrizio Giovanardi was missing from the grid for race two after an engine problem with his Vauxhall Vectra, while Alan Taylor and Chris Stockton also failed to take the start.

When the lights went out, Jackson made the best start from pole to hold the lead into Paddock Hill Bend ahead of a quick-starting Rob Collard and Steven Kane; Collard having jumped ahead of his Motorbase team-mate off the line. Plato was fourth ahead of Matt Neal, while Colin Turkington made a slow start and slipped to sixth.

Jackson was soon starting to pull away despite the maximum ballast on his car while behind him, Kane was pushing Collard for second but in turn was under pressure from Plato in fourth.

For the final weekend of the season, the race was proving to be a quiet affair and the positions out front remained static until lap ten, when Neal went for the inside of Plato at Clearways. Out of the corner however, Plato started to slow and dropped to the rear of the field with a slow lap before pitting with a steering rack issue.

That promoted Neal to fourth and Turkington to fifth, while Tom Chilton now held sixth for Team Halfords. Neal was pushing hard to find a way past Kane to move into the podium places and having put his car down the inside into Clearways on lap 15, he was able to run side-by-side with the BMW along the start-finish line and take the place into Paddock Hill, with Turkington following the Vectra through to take fourth.

Neal then set about finding a way past Collard for second, and on lap 19 he pulled a similar move by getting his nose inside Collard into Clearways and then completing the move over the start-finish line. As had been the case a few laps earlier, Turkington followed Neal through to move into third place and demote Collard down to fourth.

The positions out front would remain the same to the flag, with Jackson securing his fifth win of the season from Neal and Turkington, while Collard, Kane and Chilton rounded out the top six. A late puncture for Darren Turner dropped him out of contention and left Andy Jordan to take seventh, while the points were completed by Tom Onslow-Cole, Gordon Shedden and Mike Jordan.
