Shedden doubles up
20 June 2010
Gordon Shedden made it two wins from two with victory in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Croft.
Shedden led for almost the entire race to take his second win of the year just hours after the first, only briefing ceding position to allow team-mate Matt Neal to lead one lap late on and secure a bonus point.
Neal had battled through the field from fifth at the end of lap one to finish second, with his charge up the order including a somewhat controversial move at Tower on the second lap which saw him hit Paul O'Neill who in turn tipped Rob Collard into a spin.
That allowed Neal to climb to third and he then battled past Jason Plato at Sunny In to secure second place and strengthen his championship lead.
Plato took third ahead of a huge battle for fourth between Tom Onslow-Cole and O'Neill. The sunshine.co.uk driver spent most of the race trying to find a way ahead of the Ford and finally clinched the position with a lunge down the inside at the hairpin on the final lap.
That left Onslow-Cole with fifth ahead of Tom Boardman, who emerged on top of a huge battle for position in the mid-field. He was followed by Andrew Jordan and a recovering Collard with Jordan just managing to secure pole for the final race after the reverse grid draw. Alex MacDowall, despite heavy damage to the front of his car, and Andy Neate rounded out the top ten.
Triple Eight pair James Nash and Daniel Lloyd tangled at the hairpin and finished outside the points while a tough race for Airwaves BMW saw both Steven Kane and Mat Jackson retire.
